Co-Artistic Director/Choreographers Melissa Wynn and Lorelei Bayne present the Dangerous Lorraines Dance Theater in Connect/Disconnect, the company's premiere concert in Sacramento. The 11-member dance company experiments with improvisation, contemporary modern dance as well as dance/theater performance techniques to explore instances of connection and disconnection in today's modern society. At times abstract and gestural, other times peculiar and chaotic, and some instances thought-provoking and technical, the performance serves as a taste of varying styles to come in future concerts. The evening consists of dances ranging in music and style - Everything Old is New Again is Bayne's quirky construction to the music of Kurt Weill. The work, which is separated into several sections throughout the evening, is a look at how in an effort to continue functioning, proper society disconnects itself from tragic events by focusing on superficialities and blissful trivialities. The clown-like performers engage in odd and charming polka and tango-inspired dances, trying to connect with each other, crossing terrain from passionate romance to complete indifference. Awkward partnering and kinetic movement are the elements that make up Wynn's Connect/Disconnect. This 30-minute escapade takes an abstract look at the individual within a group and asks whether or not technology assists people in communicating and connecting, or not. Set to a soundscore of chopped and re-sampled voices, the piece creates the image of crowds existing within an electronic device. Collaboratively choreographed Interface features several generations of performers including guest artists Dr. Linda Goodrich (Sac State Univ.), Bobbie Bolden (UC Davis), Kathryn Eggert (Davis, CA), Lisa Ross (Sac State Univ.) the artistic directors, and others. Retro/Intro is the 20-minute slow-motion opener which serves as a background and company introduction for those early arriving audience members. This moving sculpture occurs prior to showtime, but is a dance in its own right. Also included in the concert are quintet Desire to Take Flight, and the duet, Black/White, performed by Bayne and Wynn, along with several improvisations. Guests Bob Mariano and percussionists Ben Prima and Deborah Cardoza, perform live musical accompaniment.

Handmade knit scarves, shawls, jewelry and Dangerous Lorraines t-shirts will be for sale in the lobby.
