Sonja Brodt first joined the Sacramento area dance scene in 1990, when she moved to Davis and became a founding member of the Bonnie McNeely Dance Company. After a hiatus of several years in Hawaii, she returned to California in 1999 and has been performing and creating dances in Davis and Sacramento ever since. In addition to Dangerous Lorraines, Sonja choreographs and performs as a member of the Applegate Dance Company and Blueprint Dance Company in Davis. She also directs her own company, Ecokinesis, which draws on her background in science and fuses elements of classical ballet, modern dance, Hawaiian hula, East Indian dance, and Japanese butoh to portray ecological concepts and to celebrate the human connection to the landscape. Sonja teaches occasional ballet and modern technique classes at the Applegate Dance Studio in Davis and has taught a course in Environmental Dance Composition at her alma mater, Randolph-Macon WomanÕs College in Virginia. When she is not dancing, Sonja researches issues in agricultural sustainability at UC Davis.
