THE DANGEROUS LORRAINES
Dangerous Lorraines DanceTheater is a performance group committed to the creation of contemporary and theatrical dance works. Originally founded in June 2004 by Artistic Director and choreographer Melissa Wynn, it was collaboratively directed with choreographer Lorelei Bayne for several years, and is now again solely directed by Melissa Wynn. Currently based in Sacramento, this project-based company features a range of dancers, actors, composers, musicians, and designers to produce exciting, enchanting, visceral performances. The Dangerous Lorraines have presented work in the Dance Houston Does Houston showcase of up & coming choreographers at Theater in Houston, TX; the Utopia Arts Extravaganza in Huntsville, TX; the ETC Dance Concert (East Texas Dance Consortium) in Huntsville, TX; the Festival of the Arts at Sacramento State University; 8x8x8 Showcase in Berkeley, CA; the SF Fringe Festival in San Francisco; as part of 10.10.10 - the Grand Opening of the Crocker Arts Museum in Sacramento, CA; and in 6 Degrees - a collaborative showcase with Dandelion Dance Theater, Randee Paufve and Della Davidson in Davis, CA. The company presents its own seasonal concert approximately once a year, and DLDT has made several site-specific improvisation appearances as part of downtown Sacramento's 2nd Saturdays Arts Walk. It is our aim to build a nationally and internationally recognized dance theater company. It is the mission of The Dangerous Lorraines to challenge and entertain audiences while pushing artistic limits. Dangerous Lorraines DanceTheater is a member of Dancer's Group in San Francisco, and has been the recipient of a 2008-2009 ArtScapes grant from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission.

Melisa Visaya is a 25 year old Dance and Pre-Nursing Major at Sacramento State University. She started dancing in high school on a competitive cheer and dance team, Sacramento Valley All-Stars. †When she first started her college career at California State Long Beach University, she became a part of the Pacific Asian Cultural Modern Dance troupe, a hip-hop/ modern/ jazz group that did performances in their local area. She fell in love with the artistry of dance when she returned home to attend Sacramento State University. She then decided she wanted to pursue her career in nursing and took some time away from dance and in the meantime started a family. Melisa has now returned to the dance program and is focused on graduating with her B.A in theatre, with a concentration in dance by Fall 2010. Around the same time, she plans on being accepted into a nursing program, as well as being still active in the dance community. |

danced with The Dangerous Lorraines in 2007 and now again since 2010. Although her passion for street dance began in 1999, her technical training began with Jazz at Sacramento City College in 2003. In 2004 she joined their
Hip Hop team with whom she performed at the Collegiate Nationals in Vegas. She then pursued theatre and dance as a minor at Sacramento State. During her time there she continued her training in Jazz, and began training in Modern and Ballet. She also broadened her experiences and traveled to workshops to work with Nicholas Leichter Dance, Mia Michaels, as well as to the 2007 ACDFA at UC Irvine. Her last stage performance to date was in May 2008 during the Senior Choreography showcase at Sacramento State; however she also dipped her hand in the acting pot and made a short film with Forth
Entertainment 2008. Since then she received her BA in Liberal Arts with a minor in theatre and dance, has been gifted a child, and is truly excited to be using her dancing feet once again with such talented and wonderful performers. |
